“Connected Southampton – Transport Strategy 2040” is the name for a new draft transport strategy for the city of Southampton which sets out a long term vision for improving the transport network in Southampton over the next twenty years.

This draft strategy is now out to public consultation from Wednesday 25 July to Tuesday 16 October,

The strategy proposes to deliver around 75 different transport projects that will support the transformation of the city. Major proposals include:

  • Developing mass rapid transit for Southampton and the wider area that transforms the public transport experience
  • Developing a walking and cycling focused “liveable” city centre and a network of active travel zones in local neighbourhoods
  • Completing a comprehensive cycle network for the city
  • Establishing a network of park and ride sites
  • Working towards a zero transport emission city which improves air quality beyond legal limits

SCC are running a number of public drop-in events during the consultation period where you can find out more information or ask questions.
